Child and Youth Services

Child and Youth Services (CYS) provides programs and services for children of eligible military and civilian families. Within CYS you will find something to meet your children’s needs, including full, part time or hourly child care, before/after school care, camps, programs for middle school and teen-age youth, Instructional classes as well as sports and fitness activities. 

SKIES

SKIES Unlimited stands for “School of Knowledge, Inspiration, Exploration and Skills” with the word “Unlimited” for the unlimited possibilities that this program provides children and youth. Sign up for these courses can be done by first registering with the Army Child Youth and School Services department. 

Youth Centers

Baumholder Youth Centers have a wide range of programs for youth in grades 6-12, offering fun-filled afternoons, evenings, and weekends. Free Middle School Teen (MST) programs are offered daily after school and in the afternoons during the summer. MST morning camps are also offered at a nominal fee during the summer to complement the free afternoon program. 

Youth Sports

Baumholder Youth Sports and Fitness Programs provide team sports, individual sports, fitness and health programs and, programming at Child Development Centers, School Age and Youth Programs. Pre-registration is required for Sports and Fitness Programs.

Army Community Service

Army Community Service (ACS) offers a variety of workshops open to U.S DoD ID card holders.  From Family readiness to financial health - and much more - ACS helps maintain community readiness and resiliency through a wide range of educational opportunities, special events, individualized counseling services, and other offerings. ACS helps Soldiers from their first assignments all the way to separation or retirement, as well as Families, veterans, wounded warriors, survivors, and retirees. ACS supports the entire Army community!

Baumholder Library

The Baumholder Library offers a wealth of materials, both hard-bound and online on offer to Soldiers and family members, civilians and contractors in the Baumholder Military Community (BMC). The library is particularly popular with youngsters and offers story hours, summer reading programs, fun events and learning opportunities for children of all ages.

Did you know how old Baumholder is?

The friendly town of Baumholder was established perhaps as early as 1156!  The command keeps a fascinating collection Baumholder, historic materials in a special Baumholder Community History Room filled with relics, photos and keepsakes, especially materials  highlighting the American era of the city. 

Did you know that there are more Americans living in Baumholder than Germans?

It's a fact: American residents outnumber local German citizens almost 2 to 1 in Baumholder! The town has a long and storied history of cultural exchange and residents take a shared interest in community events and holidays both German & American are frequently celebrated jointly. Local German-American Friendship clubs were established in the early days of the Cold War 1950's and are still open to new members of both nations to this day! Baumholder ACS offers a monthly German Language Course and Host Nation Tour, so making new friends is easy!   

Did you know which U.S. President and his family visited Baumholder?

In December of 1996 President William Jefferson Clinton visited Baumholder with his wife and daughter. While on Smith Barracks President Clinton met with Soldiers, toured post facilities such as the Hall of Champions and had lunch in the dining hall with service members. Before leaving he met then German Chancellor Helmut Kohl in the Rheinlander Community Center for a discussion on European affairs and the conflict in Bosnia.
